A Visit from Brenda Dinsdale: Reflecting on the Holocaust and the Kindertransport

On Tuesday, we were honored to welcome Brenda Dinsdale, the Honorary President of the Newcastle Reform Synagogue, to XPGateshead. Brenda gave an insightful talk to our students about the Holocaust, focusing on the extraordinary Kindertransport rescue mission that brought thousands of mostly Jewish children to Britain during the Second World War.

Brenda shared powerful stories of friends she has made over the years—many of whom were Kindertransport children who fled Nazi-occupied Europe and arrived in the North East. One particularly moving account she shared was of a group of young girls who, after being separated from their families, arrived in Tynemouth, England. These girls found refuge in a hostel, where they began the difficult process of rebuilding their lives far from home.

Brenda’s personal connections and stories brought the history of Kindertransport to life, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. Her visit was a poignant reminder of the resilience of those who survived and the importance of remembering such crucial moments in history.
