What a fantastic return to school for G29! I want to take a moment to express how proud we are of the outstanding commitment and engagement our Year 11s have shown right out of the gate. They have hit the ground running with a focused, mature attitude that sets a brilliant tone for the year ahead.
Miss Tatters recently shared a powerful quote with us in community: “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter their life by altering their attitude of mind.” We have been using this to reflect on mindset, self-talk, helpful thoughts, and resilience. Building these strong mental habits goes hand-in-hand with daily attendance and punctuality. Punctuality will be particularly vital moving forward as students transition into Academic Crew, where they will be receiving targeted interventions for specific subjects. Being on time ensures they don’t miss a single minute of this tailored support.
Key Reminders & Launching Next Week
-
In school revision sessions:
-
Tuesday (7:15 AM): Fitness session (a fantastic way to boost endorphins, clear the mind, and build physical and mental resilience for the day ahead!). Students must have a change of clothes for after this session.
-
Tuesday (8:05 AM): English Literature revision in G6. We will start with the Nature poems studied in Y9.
- Tuesday (Lunchtime): Science revision.
-
Thursday (7:15 AM): Fitness session.
-
Thursday (8:05 AM): History revision in H15. We will start with People’s Health which was studied in Y9.
-
Thursday & Friday (Lunchtime): Art and Photography catch-up sessions.
-
It is essential that students seize these early opportunities to stay on top of coursework, consolidate learning, and build sustainable revision habits.
-
-
Extended Study & Clubs: Extended Study begins again next week, running Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. It provides a quiet, focused study space supported by adults who can offer guidance. In KS4, regular retrieval and synthesizing of key content is crucial for long-term retention. Our full timetable of lunch and after-school clubs also launches next week, and we strongly encourage all students to get involved.
-
Wednesday PE for G30: A reminder that G30 have PE on Wednesdays, and bringing full PE kit is essential. Physical activity plays a huge role in supporting physical and mental health, which is crucial as stresses increase with the added pressures of GCSE subjects.
-
Daily Essential Kit: Please ensure your student comes fully equipped every day with:
-
A backpack or suitably sized bag
-
A filled water bottle
-
A complete pencil case (pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, sharpener, purple pen, and a glue stick)
-
A fully charged iPad and headphones (ideally non-expensive)
-
A notebook and a reading book
-
- Dress code: Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with our dress code and ensuring students are leaving the house meeting these expectations. A reminder that coats/body warmers cannot be worn in crew rooms or classrooms. We encourage students who know they find the school cooler than others to wear jumpers and hoodies.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s Crew Leader in the first instance.
